Offices you WANT to work in!

We have both been working hard creating a beautiful work space for ourselves that is inspiring and fun to work in! It can be hard working from your home so it is so important to create the right atmosphere where you can stay focused and not get too distracted... as you may now we are easily distracted.

Things to keep in mind is what type of space are you drawn to normally? Do you like to be around lots of color to help energize you or do you need something more soothing and relaxing? I guess this also depends on your job :) Another thing is the lighting... we love the idea of adding a really fun light fixture in your office. This not only helps from a lighting perspective but it will add some personality to the space and make it feel more special. Another way to add color and vibrancy is with artwork and a rug! We love looking on etsy for both art and for rugs... there are so many  amazing color-washed and vintage rugs on there!

These are our favorite offices that we have found from some of our favorite blogs and websites! Domino, My Domanine, and of course Pinterest

Magic Carpets

Here at HON we do have favorites when it comes to the design process! We absolutely LOVE picking out rugs for our clients. Time and time again we are reminded how important it is in order to bring the entire space together. It always helps ground the space and adds interest to the overall look.

We love to keep a nice neutral palette and then have some FUN with rugs and textiles. They add so much warmth and texture that it is hard sometimes for us to picture a room without one! If a large rug scares you for either price or cleanability try out a runner here or there. Or look for the amazing selection of indoor/outdoor rugs that are out there now!

Our rug designers are always adding new beautiful creations to their line so it was hard to select just a few to share! These rugs really are magic!

Sherwin-Williams Color Pick 2018: Oceanside

We cannot say we were surprised when we saw the color pick for 2018 from Sherwin Williams. I am noticing more and more that people are not afraid of using color. I still love a beautiful neutral palette and even have a few white walls of my own but nothing adds more vibrancy and energy to a room than a coat of bold paint! They say that this color is the color of "wanderlust;" "Inspired by travel, the blue-green hue will add an air of mystery and elegance to any space."

All I have to say is sign me up!

Berkeley and I took the plunge with a bold color in our office and it totally paid off! The vibrant teal walls keep us energized and happy! By keeping everything else super clean and neutral (white desks, wood chairs, white cabinet) it doesn't feel too busy or distracting. God knows we are easily distracted so that would have never worked. haha

But back to the Oceanside color from SW... you may be thinking how do I incorporate such a bold color when currently I have nothing teal or this bold in my house? Don't think you have to paint your entire living room teal (actually I may advise against it all together). Think smaller spaces (a study, music room or office), your guest or powder bathroom, behind your builtins to add a pop, or a door! Once you have chosen where the paint is going be sure to pull the color in again somewhere else in the house... either through art or textiles. This will really help make your decision feel intentional and not random.

Find some pictures below for inspiration! Gray is great and all but I think it is time to take a little risk and embrace your inner wanderlust... I promise it will pay off :)

Keep it Classic with Black & White

The classic black and white combo brings instant style and sophistication to any space! We love adding touches of this with pillows, ottomans, and most recent anything with a black and white bone inlay!! Sneak peak into a recent purchase of mine- CB2's Taylor Bone Inlay table  (this time I get to be the client) for my Master bedroom!

Moving on to some full on rooms with this stunning combo-- we have found living rooms, bedrooms, kitchens, dining rooms and even outdoor patios! We selected our personal favorites that all get the HON approval. The best thing about this combo is that you can use almost any color for a pop of something bright and unexpected: pink- coral- indigo-gold-mustard-green (especially emerald) This can help warm up the space and add a little variety to the overall look!

If you would like to incorporate just a few items see our picks for black and white furniture, artwork, decor and pillows!

9 Marble Tables for Every Style & Budget

There is nothing that we love more than mixing different elements in a room… If you look around your living room and feel like it’s all blending together or it feels dark and dreary than it might be time to trade out one of those wood side tables or coffee tables and freshen up your space with a touch of marble.

We love some of the smaller marble side tables and nesting tables… all great options for someone that doesn’t want to break the bank on a large marble coffee table. We scoured through some of our favorite sources and found some great marble tables in a wide range of prices and sizes to add a new fresh element in your space!

Quick Tip: Grab a tray or a pretty set of coasters to place on your marble coffee table to keep it looking beautiful for longer! Also, have your table periodically resealed to retain the shine and help protect it from future stains.

Nomad Design Tip: If you end up doing a small marble accent table be sure to add another marble element somewhere else in the space. Look for a marble tray or object that you could put out on your coffee table or mantel. This adds some more interest in the space and makes your design decision feel intentional- not random!
